The best laundry hack? Prevention.

If you’re someone who likes to take care of their quality garments, and are interested in saving yourself a lot of time and energy doing less laundry & stressful stain removal - I’ve got you covered. Here you’ll find all the info about my Underarm Shield Patterns.

Why your underarm shields?

I’m so glad you asked! I designed these shields from scratch, patterning them off of a beloved 1950s dress from my own wardrobe.

The parts of the design I’m most proud of include the way that all seams are cleanly finished - you don’t need to overlock anything - no exposed threads which can snag and unravel down the line. This makes them great for taking many washings - a sustainable solution to sweat guarding. Saves time, energy, and money on excess cleaning products in the long run.

Also, the way I’ve situated the inner absorption layers reduces bulk at the seam that sits under your arm (in conjunction with how I have that seam tucked away). There was a lot of trial and error that went into these and I’m confident that they are the perfect solution for better protecting your treasured garments & cutting down on stressful washing.

Where can I find your patterns?

You can purchase them in my shop as a digital download:

I’ve bought the pattern, I’m looking for the video tutorial.

Sure thing! You can find it by clicking here and the password to view it is in your instructions page for the shields.

Ok, now how do you secure them inside a garment?

Two ways. Outlined in the instructions I talk about pins and snaps.

I prefer snaps for a number of reasons:

1) You can fit them in once & stitch in the snaps to always ensure proper positioning. Great if you’re on the go and don’t want to mess with refitting for pinning in.

2) It’s quick to snap them out and toss them in the wash so they’re ready for next time.

I have a wide range of these shields I’ve made for regular wear, ones that have matched fabric for my self sewn garments, and lightweight ones I’ve created for my sheer garments (many that are upcycled from t-shirts - perfectly worn in & soft, eco conscious and sustainable.)

It’s easy to sew snaps on to one standard dress shield and make sure the other side of the snap lines up in a variety of garments, so they can quickly swap in & out of muliple pieces in your wardrobe.

I’ve even done a little video here for you on my Instagram with a trick about snaps that you may not have known!

Wait, I don’t sew! Do you sell the shields themselves?

At this time I do not. Check back at a later date to see when I offer them again.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch! I really hope these humble helpers take a burden off your washing.
